The video above shows our process for creating our cane decanters. The canes are rolled up, gathered over, and then blown and shaped to create a refined form. These zanfirico cane decanters are especially lovely when used to serve red wine or other dark colored beverages. The cane work of the piece is enhanced when liquid is added.  Prior to this video, we pulled our own zanfirico canes (shown in the photo above). These canes are created using a multi-step process in which a bundle of canes are put together, heated, and then simultaneously pulled and twisted to create a dynamic pattern. Our process of creating the branch vessels includes using hot glass of a contrasting color to create expressive lines. We begin with a gather of glass onto the blowpipe and then we trail glass in a different color across the surface. We then use our usual process of hand-shaping the glass to refine the form. From designing the forms to refining the glass object, we are involved in every step of the process.
